Valuable moments for busy city lawyers to connect with others and feel revitalised.

As many as 69% of lawyers experience burnout due to a combination of long hours, tight deadlines and high expectations. Fieldfisher, a forward-thinking law firm with over 500 high-performing legal professionals, works hard to support its people, yet traditional outsourced wellness approaches and virtual classes weren't delivering. Finding interesting events to tempt committed lawyers away from their desks to switch off and recharge was a challenge. The HR function also wanted to bring people together – hybrid working and online events meant an increasing lack of connection, something that was beginning to cause concern.

Having seen Antidote’s work elsewhere in their building (Riverbank House, EC1), Dave Finlay, the head of rewards and benefits, asked us to propose a trial wellbeing programme. Wary of introducing anything too experimental, he agreed to an initial programme of wellness experiences. This featured a series of monthly workshops and quarterly festivals with events such as pilates sessions, sound therapy and Gua Sha treatments. Fieldfisher’s internal comms team shared the events using internal emails and the intranet, and employees could book places using the Antidote booking platform.

The transformation was remarkable. Previous wellbeing classes attracted just one or two people, but Antidote events would sell out within minutes. Dave said,

"When the email comes through announcing the next sessions, people are literally messaging their friends saying, 'this is up, get on and get booked.' There's a real community around it."

In addition to the anecdotal new connections developing within the organisation, the Fieldfisher wellbeing survey quantitatively demonstrates the value of the Antidote partnership with employees and means we’re continuing to support their workplace wellness goals.
